If they don't understand I don't mind. If they don't pay attention it drives me up the wall.

Yes, it is a problem and not just limited to a few, but to many. People don't take the time to listen and think about it, so they just ask you to say it again. It usually happens when I am trying to speak to an illegal. They, even if they understand English, don't comprehend as they don't have the cultural back grown to associate the understanding of the statement.

Its somewhat nerve-racking, but sometimes you have to deal with it. We are so quick in becoming annoyed with people without knowing what the issues and/or problems are.

There are some with speech impediments and others that are legally deaf and/or hard of hearing. Regaring actual comprehension of the verbiage being used, sometimes we have to look at the audience we are speaking to and use wording these individuals can relate to.

Now, you wouldn't tell a fourth grader to "solidify liquids", would you? No! VERBIAGE!! Its all about the verbiage. You would expect a college student or even an adult without a college degree to understand what the word solidify means.

Its all in the dialog.

If they don't comprehend, I don't mind repeating until they do. Some people get things quicker than others. That's all!
However, what really is irritating to me, is talking to one of my relatives who refuses to wear a hearing aid and can't hear anything, but will say that I'm talking to softly.

It drives me crazy. My daughter-in-law doesn't comprehend much at all. She has very little formal education. Sometimes, I don't even bother starting a conversation with her, because I am tired of trying to explain everything I say to her, and then having to explain the explanations.

Keep repeating yourself until its nailed into their stubborn brains. Its up to them if they choose to listen to words of advice or wisdom.
and when all else fails resort to making them listen to the "dee dee dee" song my carlos mencia. Maybe then they will get the point that they're a bunch a dumb@$$eS

pisses me off...oh, I am one of those people...I am not a lip reader and I have to have someone say it out loud or repeat themselves...but I have gotten better at my responces...true story.....
I was in class one day and this girl asked me something...I didn't know what was asked (and thinking statistically that it was either a yes or no question). I answered yes, and she really looked at me really confused...what she had asked me was my name..and thought that my name was yes....I did tell her otherwise though.... :) I still catch myself doing that but I try as hard as I can to see/hear what someone is saying before I answer blindly... :)

Oh i hate that. You repeat and repeat and repeat the question and their like what and then you forget the question and they get made at you because you forgot and it was really their fault.

I used to have this girl in my Algebra class who would ask me questions on how to solve problems and I would slowly explain and show her how to do it step by step to have her ask 3 or 4 more times can you do that again?? It got so annoying because we have free tutors at our school that knew how to help her better than I could but she was too stubborn to see them.....But i did try .... and try to help her :0)

I don't repeat myself to someone who doesn't comprehend. Find someone new to talk to, preferably with a brain.
