What happened in Florida just before or on the 7th of Sept that Jeb Bush declared martial law

So when GW Bush was reading "My pet Goat " to some school children there were no civil liberties in the State of Florida

Why wasn't that bigger news than it appears to have been ?

From the October 2001 Idaho Observer:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bush brother declares martial law in Florida

“I hereby declare that a state of emergency exists in the state of Florida...The Authority to suspend the effect of any statute or rule governing the conduct of state business, and further authority to suspend the effect of any order or rule of any government entity...The authority to seize and utilize any and all real or personal property as needed to meet this emergency...The authority to order the evacuation of any or all persons from any location in the State...The authority to regulate the return of the evacuees to their home comunities...I hereby order the Adjutant General to activate the Florida National Guard for the duration of this emergency.” ~Florida Governor Jeb Bush, September 11, 2001
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida Governor Jeb Bush signed Executive Order 01-261 September 7, 2001

BarB

This is the first I have heard of it

The order was signed - but there is not one - suggestion it was ever acted upon

Jeb's camp appears to acknowledge the order as a public document but denies any sort of martial law -

But the article of law signed into effect - if you do read it - Putting an army in the role of the police - that is martial law

But again - it never seems to have taken effect

The President wasn't even in the state on the 7th. I live in Florida and I was not aware it went under martial law. Can you cite a source here?
edit: A state of emergency is a whole different kettle of fish from martial law. To move along any federal assistance a governor will declare areas or states in this case a state of emergency. It's standard practice in Florida because of all of the Hurricanes. No martial law.

And so it begins. I do think this will be a trend in the very near future. For one thing Bush and Cheney are about to be on the hot seat with Rumsfeld over this torture deal. We're talking Nuremberg trials here. Edit: Declaring a state or emergency is the same angle that Bush is using. He has already aligned the Whitehouse with the correct executive orders and definitions of terrorism and what qualifies a state of emergency such as a pandemic outbreak this cold and flu season. He has also already got Operation Nobel Eagle troops swarming all over Washington.

Read the order itself and not the ******** commentary that comes with it. He did not declare "marital law". He activated and authorized the national guard to train with local emergency management authorities and law enforcement for the events of natural disaster, civil disturbance, and drug law enforcement. There is nothing unusual or out of the ordinary about this.

If this is the best you can do, I suggest you give it up.

ADDITION

Yes, trout, your Idaho Observer quote is the exact order, also found on your Rense citation (had you actually read what you were citing, you would know). No where in the order is martial law declared.

It seems kind of funny that you have picked and chosen what quotes to pull from the order. Could you be trying to bolster your very weak position? I also find it interesting that you do not give a date that this was printed or a website to find this on. Could it be that this maybe wasn't printed? I think that is a possibility.

I believe the only one who can declare martial law is the President.
Jeb Bush was a good Governor, the state did well when he was in office. He was a strong defender of no oil rigs in the gulf or off the Atlantic coast.

Did you actually read the information from a valid news source or do you look to "shock" news for your knowledge.

If you had bothered to read, you would have known that these incidents happen frequently in Florida and other Gulf States where hurricanes and storms are prevalent. It is PRACTICE for disasters.

No citizen was affected.....it was TRAINING.

Most states have periodic training of it's emergency resources. How it is done is based upon what sort of natural disasters happen in the particular state.....

Florida is NOT under martial law. I don't recall martial law being instituted last Sept 7 either. The only time there might have been martial law is after a hurricane and then only in areas severly affected where there would have been risk of looting or vandalism. We are not under martial law!

that's rense. not exactly the most truthful website in the entire internet (its neo nazi, white supremacist backing doesn't help it either).

sheesh, doing a google search on "jeb bush" and "martial law", brings up mostly KOOK and conspiracy websites that themselves have mediocre facts and truth telling.

you might want to stop reading sites that are prone to lie about everything and make up facts as they go along

Yup, not one site that comes up on the google search are remotely even credible.

chalk it up to the rumor mongering of American hating idiots.
