Just saw Willie McCovey at the HR Derby handing out bats to the participants. He was on crutches, anybody know why? Could he possibly have had his knees replaced? He was a class act when he played.

Willie is recovering after his second or third knee surgery. He should be off the crutches soon.

No one mentions McCoveys constant knee problem which he had to deal with as a player. He rarely played anything close to a full slate as a player, needing frequent days off. If his knee was sound, Willie would probably have closer to 600 career HRs.
