Willie McCovey on crutches?

Just saw Willie McCovey at the HR Derby handing out bats to the participants. He was on crutches, anybody know why? Could he possibly have had his knees replaced? He was a class act when he played.

McCovey has had chronic knee problems and requires the arm braces to walk. He has had "at least a dozen" operations on each knee.

Could it be just old age?

Or maybe he has some disease
