Use a larger aquarium and keep the temperature about 75F. The PH should be about 5-6. Reduce the lighting by adding floating plants and put some moss, or fake moss, on the floor of the aquarium. After they lay the eggs the adults should be removed and the eggs should hatch in about a day. Feed the newly hatched fish regularly.

They are not hard to breed, they are bred all the time here in Florida, and chances are that the ones you have came from here. They are bred in ponds. The only way you will have even the slightest chance of success in a tank is if it is VERY heavily planted, with only neons in the tank. Any catfish, algae eater, or any other fish will eat the eggs and fry. You should remove the parents after you notice eggs. Like I said, your chances are slight at best. They are not worth all the effort.

The breeders in Singapore do it all the time. But yes, they are quite difficult to spawn in a home aquarium.

hey they have very specific needs for them to be in breeding condition. they need soft acidic water and high temps and really won't breed in captivity, even if you got them to breed you'd probably never know cause the eggs or fry will be eaten.
