just tell them you want to breastfeed and It shouldn't be a problem. I breastfeed my son right after my c-section, although the nurses had to help me.
Good luck tomorrow! =0)

I nursed my daughter after my c-section. Not right away, but within an hour or two. If your baby is hungry and you can't nurse right away, they can give your baby formula through a medicine dropper or even a tiny cup instead of a bottle.

Just be clear with the nurses that you want to breastfeed, and I'm sure they will do their best to help you. It might be hard right away, but do stick with it. It's definitely worth it.

Good luck tomorrow.

She is your baby and you can demand she be given NO bottles. She is your baby! Don't let them talk you out of this decision. Also, don't let them tell you she needs sugar water immediately after birth, that's a lie.

I've had 3 csections and I've nursed. The only complication you should have because of your csection is holding the baby while nursing. (Since the baby would be lined up mostly with your incision.) To solve this problem I used a pillow or a boppy pillow.

Good luch hun and congrats on your new baby! Try to get some sleep tonite. ;)

Edited to add: Of course you can breastfeed after having a Csection! LOL, consider the source of the answers you receive.

you need to make it clear to the nurses before delivery that you do not want your baby to have a bottle. It will be recorded on his chart and often will be written on his wrist band. You will be able to breastfeed in the recovery room, but it will likely be a hour or two after birth. if the nurses mess up and give him a bottle you will still be able to nurse, one bottle won't gve him nipple confusion.

oops, just realized you're having a girl!! Sorry for all the "he's"!!

Tell the nurses and doctors that you don't want to bottle feed and that you want to breast feed. They should respect your wishes and if it isn't a health problem they should go along with what you want. Now I heard from this lady that had a c-section that she didn't get to she her baby until two hours after birth and I don't know if the baby has to be fed before then.

I think after your c section you will need time to recover so the baby may need a bottle, but don't worry....one bottle doesn't kill breastfeeding. A few of mine got bottles in the hospital and went on to breastfeed successfully. I suggest you mention your desire to breastfeed to your nurses and doctor and they will do everything they can to make sure you get to do that......csection doesn't mean you can't breastfeed...although you may have to alter your positions for comfort reasons.

Let the nurses know what your preferences are in regards to feeding your baby. Unless you have problems producing enough milk, you should have nothing to worry about. Good luck with your C-section!

I am positive you will be able to. I had a c-section as well. I had already decided beforehand to bottle feed. After the surgery I was glad that I could take pain medications.

I want to tell you- don't be afraid of having the c-section! For me, it was one of the most miraculous experiences of my life- to be able to be wide awake and fully aware. Now afterwards- you will probably not feel to well. But it is SOOOOO worth it!

they ALWAYS ask you. But so that YOU feel safe you get in there and you tell the nurse "I want to breastfeed my child, I do not want her having a bottle.." if they MUST give her a bottle, TELL THEM you are pumping for her first feeding and if they don't let you THROW A FIT. :)"

You should be able to shortly after your surgery, as long as there are no complications. As far as bottles, simply ask for it to be noted in your chart that you don't want your baby given any artificial nipples, due to your plans to nurse. Shouldn't be a problem. Good luck.
