I give them if the question is a good one or I think it was funny.
I even sometimes give stars when I dont answer the question, some questions catch my eye and I'll stop and star them.
yours caught my eye and I starred, and left alittle info behind, so enjoy your star, if they had colors I'd give you a blue one ;o)

I think I like giving thumbs up/thumbs down more than stars.

No, I don't. Because here in Brazil people make too big a fuss about that and get too proud just because they have a lot of stars...
