YOU are a god. You just haven't realized it yet.

A guru is a teacher. The word comes from Sanskrit. In some traditions, it is a special kind of teacher - one that can bring you to enlightenment. In other traditions, it is simply a person who accumulates a number of followers.

If you can tell one from another, then perhaps you have enough wisdom not to need a guru in the first place. Heh.

For most, "GOD" is their projection of a higher power that gives them a meaning to their existence and guidance in life. For many GOD is an emotional crutch that get them through times that they don't believe that they feel they may not be able to handle on their own. For most GOD is an external being that is omnipotent and either exists above or all around.
My theory is not quite along these archaic beliefs, but I do believe that these beliefs are good for most people.
A really interesting explanation of how all religions and cultures' GOD intertwine is expressed in a movie (more like a documentary) called "What the BLEEP? - Down the Rabbit Hole" I highly recommend checking this out if this subject truly interests you.
As far as the meaning of GURU, if you are looking for a meaning related to GOD, I'm not what you are getting at.

The concept (some will say understanding) of God has changed as mankind's needs for a supreme being have changed. I expect it shall continue as we, as a curious species, tend to like to have nice neat answers for things. Try Karen Armstrong's book. While it won't explain non-Abrahamic based religions it is an excellent book on the concept of a supreme being.

God is that which nothing greater can be thought. God's essential being illumines his activity and his nature illumines his will. A guru is someone who many attest has profound insight into the ultimate nature of human existence.

All the geeks reading this should get what I'm talking about when I say that Haruhi Suzumiya is god.

Ahahaha. Now that I am done with the geekyness, I shall tell you that there is no god, have a nice day.

I'm not a druggie or anything but when i was tripping on acid i got thinking and god came to my head and at first i started thinking about happiness cause my sister was in my room and we were talking after she had left i realized she bought be happiness, then it came to me that happiness had to come from one thing. it came to my head that god is a supplier of happiness. everyone gets happiness from something or someone it's all a circle pattern but eventually it has to get to a point,n thats the person/thing that supplies n idk i figured it was god.

[the very same thing that brings you happiness will bring you sadness.]
