what i need to know is there a pci wifi card for desk tops that will let me pick up wifi from eny router from other homes or coffe shops the same wifi that laptops have

The D-link D-550 with antenna extension would offer better reception because you could position the antenna for the best signal. Many USB type wifi adapters have similar feature.

Of course you can get a wireless adapter for your desktop. Easy to install.

You could also get a usb wireless adapter. It plugs into the usb port and gets you wireless. Probably not quite as fast as the internal adapter, but quick and easy to install.

I don't have one personally, I use plugins wit a router.
won't it work without it.
