Through the process of selective breeding and keeping very careful records. Once you see a fish with the beginnings of the trait you want, you breed it to any other with a similar trait ans usually breed the offspring back to the parent. The you keep selecting the fish with the best showing of what you want to see and eventually after several generations you can have the desired trait in the majority of the off spring.

like if you want a super delta you have to get 2 with long tails, but now you can just buy them. you know Betta spenden means beautiful warrior. betta was a tribe name. it was a worrior tribe. and pspenden is beautiful or the other way around
