Nope, you care for them the same way you should care for bettas with any other tail variety.

No, can't say they do. You care for crowntails the same way you would for any other betta.

However, I will say this: crowntails are particularly prone to something called "ray-curling" or "ray-thinning". The names of these occurrences are pretty self-explanatory. They come about due to the fact that crowntails have separated fin rays rather than joined ones like halfmoons or veiltails. To avoid this, give your CT good soft water. You can use blackwater extract, driftwood or Indian Almond Leaves (which I find are the most effective) to do this.

Secondly, try not to net your betta during water changes. Scoop him up into a cup if you can. You'll find that lowering a cup at an angle into the water while your betta is at the water surface will suck some water in and your fish will go in along with it. This will prevent your crowntail's rays from getting bent or curled in the net. Not to mention it will save him quite a bit of stress.

I've also found that giving your crowntail sufficient space - 2.5 gallons or so - allows for their rays to grow much longer and thicker.

No, their care requirements are the same. It is the same fish as the common betta, with a different fin trait.
