Does triangulate mean to be able to blend the best of each party's position? If so, please expand. I do not quite understand the meaning. Does it mean to be able to see all sides of an issue or to be able to take all sides of an issue so you are not always on one side?

It comes from a term used by surveyors and search parties. The best position can be found by tracing lines from three points -- the target of a search is where three signals converge or the center point of survey is where three lines intersect.

In politics, you summed up the meaning well. It means finding a middle ground that satisfies multiple sides. Some might consider that the best of each position, or it may just be the least offensive aspects of each position -- what won't antagonize any of the sides.

Triangulation is the act of a candidate presenting his or her ideology as being "above" and "between" the left and right sides of the political spectrum. It involves adopting for oneself some of the ideas of one's political opponent. The logic behind it is that it not only takes good ideas away from your opponent, but that it insulates you from attacks on that particular issue. It is a tactic commonly used in third way politics.
