The patch is poking out in the middle, and the goldfish looks like it's gonna pop. The patch is clear/white. What is it, and how do I fix it??? Is it normal, or fatal? PLEASE ANSWER! I don't know what to DO. The fish is at LEAST 5 years old. Maybe more.

Nope, not ich at all.

Tis sounds like a bacterial skin infection. I would suggest you treat the fish with a good antibiotic. Tetracycline or ampicillin would be good choices for such an external infection. Just treat as directed on the package.

It's an infection. You can cure it really cheaply and easily. Go to any bigger pet shop and they'll have bottles of generic fish-get-well stuff you drop into the water. They're only a couple of quid each. I can't remember the name of the brand I used to use, but it had a drawing of a goldfish in a bowl with a bandage on and a thermometer in it's mouth, though all the generic remedies are much of a muchness. You don't need to worry about getting one that treats big flakey patches or little flakey patches. All goldfish ailments can be treated with the same bottle of fish medicine. It'll only take a couple of days for flipper to get better. It would be worthwhile doing a waterchange before you put the medicine in, just to give him a helping hand. Hope he gets well soon.

It sounds like Ick. If you go to a pet store or some place like Walmart, you can get a cure. It can be fatal. The sooner you get it treated the better.
