I've been with my fiance' for almost 2 years now, but the whole time I've still been married. I was never able to afford a divorce and my ex wouldn't pay for it... even though he was the one who ruined our marriage.

Anyway, can I get married while my divorce is pending? It will be official in Septmeber, but I am sick of waiting to marry my fiance'.

My soon-to-be ex husband is a cheating bastard. We haven't been together for 2 1/2 years, so I have no problem getting married again. I love my fiance and I want to be his wife.

Thanks for the replies, though. I didn't know the legal standpoints.

I will be officially divorced in September, so I guess I'll have to wait a little bit longer. :(

hehmommy04- Wow, you are very rude. It was an honest question. I didn't know the laws while a divorce is pending.

AND my first marriage didn't last, because my ex has a fidelity problem. So you can **** off, ****. :)

If you are not officially divorced then this is called bigamy and is definitely illegal! Once you are divorced then you can be remarried!

Engagements no longer have a "legal" status in today's society, years ago a man could be sued for breaking off an engagement or a betrothal as it used to be called. You can get engaged of course, some may frown on it but since you are not marrying until the divorce is through its nobodies business but your own.

NO...you can go to jail for that...or your marriage to fiance is not valid since your 1st marriage will still be on the books...

have a "ceremony" for you and your fiance and a reception...but don't sign anything official.

Then you can marry after divorce date.

why marry so soon after your divorce...

Not legally, because in the eyes of the law you are still married. Actually if you went to see a lawyer and he was the sole breadwinner in the family he would have been forced to pay for it, and your attorneys charges I know I had to.

You are still married until a judge declares you in a court of law divorced and only then are you allowed to remarry with out fear of prosecution.

Why would you ever want to get remarried after a divorce. It is like the military never reenlist when you survive your first tour.

No. You're still married until the divorce is FINAL.

No, you can not get married until you get a final decree of divorce. If you get married before you receive your final decree it will be illegal and you can be sent to jail.

no you have to wait for it to be final or you will legally be married to two people and there could be jail time involved if one party gets upset
