I have two tiger barbs and three red glass barbs in a ten gallon.

I had three, but one died yesterday.

Would it be safe to add three more in about two weeks? They wouldn't start to nip at the red barbs would they? The red barbs are much bigger than the tigers.

The red barbs are about 1.5 inches each, and the tigers are about .5 inches each.

Tiger barbs are well known for being rough and tumble fin nipped. They don't really care about the size of the other fish, they will nip fins. A large group of tiger barbs usually cuts down on the nipping, but usually wouldn't stop them from nipping occasionally.

Test your water first, but then it should be fine to add more tiger barbs if the test comes back good. Test for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. Tiger barbs are known for being semi-aggressive, but they also are known for "chilling" out in larger groups. You will have one barb that becomes dominant, and he will take his aggression out on the other tiger barbs, usually (but not always) leaving your other fish alone.

It shouldn't be a problem for now, but the thing to remember is as the barbs get bigger, you are going to have to upsize your tank. As a rule, you want to allow an inch of fish per gallon of water in your tank.

If not, it's too much ammonia for your tank and will kill everything.
