It is called reformatting the hard drive. You use your system restore disc and return the unit to factory fresh condition. All is lost and you then need to reinstall drivers, programs, etc. All data is gone unless you move it somewhere and return it.

If you wanted to erase everything and start over with a fresh install of windows, then do as the other answerers said and reformat your computer. (ie using the manufacturer's supplied restore disk)
If you mean you wanted to completely erase everything on your harddrive as permanently, just take it out of the hard drive bay and run a magnet over it, that will certainly render it usable and the files will be be recoverable depending on amount of disk damage.
There are also programs that you can use to "deep clean" erased files (ie, files that are emptied fmor the recycle bin are still recoverable). These programs claim that once you use it, files are not recoverable anymore but in reality, they are still recoverable by people such as the FBI.
@Roger N....LOL!!

If it's your primary disk, you can't format it. The primay disk is the one you boot Windows from. Windows has a self-preservation instinct just like we do! It will not erase itself.

The way to do it is to put in your Windows CD and boot from that. If you don't have a Windows CD, it's perfectly legal to borrow one from someone who has the same version of Windows as you do. Then you can format your disk and rebuild your system from scratch. I think it's a good idea to do this every once in a while, because your system slowly gets corrupted over time.

You can also take your disk out and install it in another computer as a slave disk, or put a new disk in your computer and make your primary disk a slave disk. As a non-primary disk, you can format it. You can also use this technique to save what you want to save off the disk before you format it.

Sometimes I'll use a little free program called killdisk. You download it to floppy, then boot right off of it and follow the instructions. Then it will write zeros all over the disk, making it pretty darn safe to donate, sell, or reinstall a new system.

Reformatting the confusing force makes your computing gadget as in case you had in basic terms bought it...each and every little thing you have ever extra to the computing gadget would be lost and long previous continuously. superb element to do in the previous you reformat the subsequent time is to repeat each and every little thing to a DVD or CD so which you would be waiting to load it lower back on. yet an alternate decision is getting an exterior confusing force and shop the belongings you do not desire to loose onto it, that is going to artwork like an extremely vast reminiscence card.

when you buy a computer it usually comes with a cd-rom that is used for cleaning the hard drive. the only problem is that it wipes everything. programs, music, photos, videos, documents and everything else. i suggest you take it to a computer geek that knows how to clean a computer after it has had a bad virus. he could clean what you wanted
