I am a current junior in high school and I am considering majoring in a business major, maybe finance, but open for suggestions in other areas of expertise. Is majoring in a business major good for job security? What is the average salary of the graduates who receive a job after graduation? Please help me with any information about business majors and jobs in business. Serious answers and sources (not Business Week) appreciated.

Thank you.

Starting salary depends on the quality of the business school. Finance majors getting a BS from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School may well get a six figure salary out of school (or close). Those coming out of Slippery Rock will get considerably less.

Go to the best school that you can get into.

Most finance major graduates have a starting salary around 55k. Depending upon what type of business you go into, it may be good job security. Investment and brokerage firms are very competitive and therefore, job security is more volatile then other finance jobs such as an actuary or banking. However, the potential for a large salary is greater.
Around your sophmore year in college, after you have taken some intro business courses, you will have an idea on what you want to study (or what you dont want to study) and potentially what kind of career you would like.
