First of all my OS is Windows 2000 professional. I had to Download Adobe 8.1 w/ Google bar I did that fine. The problem I'm having is once I click on the attachment from my email I thought it should open automatically, but instead it's opening up in some word document with alot of gibberish letters. I don't have Microsoft Office at all on my PC I deleted accidentally along time ago. So then I click on Adobe from Desktop open it that way do a search for the pdf file in search but don't know how to open. Please help what am I doing wrong?

If the document is a true Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) document Adobe Acrobat Reader 8.1 should open it, regardless of whether you have Windows 2000 or something else.

I do not understand why it wants to open in Word.

Detach the file and note where you saved it. Open Acrobat Reader and then use the File function in Acrobat Reader to find and try to open it. If Acrobat Reader cannot open it, it is not a pdf.

An easier way would be to right click on the file-go to open with-select Adobe-check mark always use this program-if Adobe isn't in the list click browse and find it in C/Program files. Or with your method, once you find your file with Adobe search just double click on it. P.S. You didn't have to accept Google toolbar with download, while this one is safe be careful of what you accept in the future.

i think first your computer is kinda slow because it's windows 2000! And all pdf files should work ! So i suggest you refresh it ! And start all over again with the e-mail address! And it should work!

All the best! Sorry if it doesn't work!

try downloading the file to desktop then try opening it. also you didn't need the google toolbar. if ya don't want it locate it in add/remove and delete it. remember to have show updates checked to see it.
