If they are unsealed, never use water on them!
I use linseed oil diluted with a little turpentine. Rub into the wood with very fine steel wool, then wipe with a clean rag. Let them dry indoors for a day or two before using.
I learned this method from an antiques dealer a long time ago. It always works for me!

I would use Murphy's Oil Soap. It would clean and protect the wood.

water with a squirt of dish soap and apply with a sponge hose off let dry in the shade

Scotts Liquid Gold...awesome stuff...not the spray, the liquid Cleans and protects, and no I don't own stock in them!!
