OK I did a stupid thing and left the lights on on Friday night (the last time I rode the bike). I did not realize it till this morning when it was TOTALLY dead. I have a battery charger, but I am completely lost as to how to get to the battery. How do i get to the termonals to charge the battery? I have the side cover off, do I actually have to take the thing apart and pull the battery out?
if you have had one and know, please HELP

hello I had a 83 650 Nighthawk 1st thing do not jumpstart any motorcycle unless you want to take a chance of major damage , battery is under the seat trickle charge over night good luck

Since the battery went completely dead, you should remove it from the bike and check the water level.
Remove the seat (a bolt on each side).
Add distilled (or bottled) water to fill each cell to the top line.
Don't use tap water. The metal deposits and impurities will damage the battery.
Charge with a 12 volt battery charger that puts out no more than 10 amps.
Let the battery sit in a plastic pan.
Acid will come out the breather tube and destroy anything it comes in contact with (except plastic).
Check it every hour - If the water is low, fill it.
If the battery is hot to the touch, take it off charge.
Bring it to a motorcycle shop to be charged, it may need replacing.

If you can get to the battery (under the seat)
& get a set of jumper cables.. you can jump start the bike from another vehical (the bike will then charge the battery itself).. just run it for 45 mins.. or so..(the car charger will be OK as long as you dont leave it on the battery for an extended period.. 3 or 4 hours will be OK)

not had one of these but with most bikes the battery lives under the seat..you will need to take it off and take a look..do NOT use a car charger on the battery tho or you will kill it get a proper bike battery charger, they do not cost much and you can use it trickle charge the battery if you need to lay up the bike over winter etc

Whoa, usually I go with Guardrailjim, but... a 10 amp charger is not good for your motorcycle battery.
That's probably a small motorcycle battery. Use a charger that's specifically for motorcycles / watercraft -- 1 amp to 1.5 amp.

More bad advice from those who don't know any better. You should never charge a small battery at more than 2 amps period! Never!

hi, i've got an identical suitable motorcycle & had rather comparable project! I took terminals off at battery & wiped clean cable ends & battery posts with an exceptional cord brush genuine good & new bolts to re-connect & now turns over like new! purely my own journey, wish this allows! additionally, make effective the connections are clean & tight everywhere! (I.E. starter solenoid & starter effective & floor)
