Well ticks are parasites;
They feed off the blood of the host; They are amogst the most disease-ridden pests;Ticks are second only to mosquitoes as vectors of human disease, both infectious and toxic.

Hard ticks can transmit human diseases such as relapsing fever, Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tularemia, equine encephalitis, Colorado tick fever, and several forms of ehrlichiosis. Additionally, they are responsible for transmitting livestock and pet diseases, including babesiosis, anaplasmosis and cytauxzoonosis.

Besides being part of the food chain and fighting for its survival as all other animals do , ticks like mosquitoes ceratinly kill many mammals (including us) due to disease.
Maybe animals that carry diseases were meant to keep us and other mammals in check from overpopulation , but thats why predation exists, so if thats the case then there are many others who serve the same purpose.

The only definitive answer that is real is that they are simply part of the food chain

Are you talking about nervous twitches (tics) or bloodsucking parasites (ticks)?

In the case of tics, no not really. The person probably needs something to settle and ease their nerves.

In the case of ticks, organisms only exist for one purpose: to eat, breed and, die. They don't exist to be "good" for something. If they are, then its more or less a side effect of their existence. Even this applies to humans, we just made it a lot more complicated

Ticks are good at sucking blood and producing more ticks. This is all that survival within their ecological niche requires and they manage that quite well. The better question might be, "Are you good for something?"
