The best way to tell is to take yer hand and flip the belt over a little and look at the belly of it. If you see craks, get a new one. They usually don't wear out that often every 3or 4 years depending.

Look at a new belt for your car in the parts store, then go outside and look at yours. If you can see a major difference, replace it.
Fan belts have a life expectancy of about 65K miles, but also deteriorate over time. They are cheap insurance against a wrecker bill in the middle of nowhere. Good Luck.

if the fan belt has cracks in it then it should be changed. gates belts are the best

take a look at the belt dear, and if its got heat cracks in it, then it should be replaced, before it breaks and leave you stranded.
