Where can I cash a personal check?

Where can I cash a personal check from out of state? I cash my paychecks at a convenience store but I'm not sure if they would cash this.

Do you have a bank account? Your bank would let you deposit it, but would probably put a hold on the amount until it cleared. If you have enough money in your account now to cover the check, they might even cash it, but would likely still put a hold on that much of the money in your account.
