It isn't bad, but it also isn't good. You are supremely average! Congratulations!
A 21 will get you into most state schools, I think, though you may want to raise it to a 22 or 23. It was my understanding when I first took it, and got a 22 (so, so long ago), that 22 was a little below what would get me into most schools. If you take it again, especially if you study for the English and the reading a bit, I'm sure you can do better.
A strictly GOOD score would be over 23 or so. :)

It's not bad for a first time. Take it again and again and I'm sure you'll probably do better on it. The first time is always usually not that great. Try taking it a couple of times and you'll do much better. And it depends on what college you want to go to. Many good colleges do accept a score of 21, but not highly competitive colleges. Look into a college handout book and see the requirements of the colleges you're interested in because they all differ from one another.
Good Luck :)

It's average- you can definitely get into a state university with those scores, and I think state universities offer great educations.
Just remember not to stress too much- regardless of what your guidance counselor is telling you to scare you, most colleges look at the overall composite of a prospective student- grades, scores, essay- and not just the scores. Ivy League schools are more picky about scores, naturally, but you can get just as good of an education-and a much cheaper one- at a State U. :)

Depends what you mean by good college. Try for an ACT score in the high 20's lower 30's to make sure.

I just took it for the first time as well and I got a 22. Im getting ready to be a junior. It's an okay score, enough to get into college but I know you want to do better.
You are really good at math and science though (my weakest points). Wanna switch?

Meh... it'll get you into a bunch of state schools and few universities... But congrats the first ACT sucks and it's over now. As long as you have a 2.5 GPA or higher you should be fine

Take the exam again and you'll pretty much be guarenteed to raise your score one or two times. I took the ACT three times.
First: 28
Second: 29
Third: 31
