Click on the current picture. That brings up your profile page. To the right it says "Edit My Info" click on that. The second block is picture. You should find the grey profile being used now, Use my Yahoo 360 Photo and Use My Yahoo! Avatar. If you don't have a 360 Account, it should say Add a Yahoo! 360 account or something like that. Click on that and you will be shown options to upload a picture. Do it, then come back and click that option.
If you would like a slightly anonymous female grey profile instead of a male profile or a cartoon avatar, I have posted 7 images based on older and newer art paintings on my Flickr account which you are free to download and then use.

Those little faces are Avatars.
To make your own go to
http://avatars.yahoo.com
Play with the available tools and options till you create your unique avatar.
Then, return to Yahoo! answers and modify (edit) you profile and choose to display your new avatar:
My Profile > Edit My Info
Then under Picture choose : Use my Yahoo! Avatar

Go to mail, then there's a icon of a gray face. Click it then edit your avatar. Then go back to Yahoo Answers and click Edit Info on your profile. Then change your pic to your avatar icon.

Just go to My profile, edit profile..
Then under ur faceless face... click on change avatar!
You'll have a face!!!

put in yahoo avatar in the search engine and click on the site and it will show you how to make one then you can put on on here.
