When we sleep, our brain naturally sends a signal telling our body to turn. On average we turn in our sleep every hour. You may not notice because you are sleeping. When you are awake, and staying on one side you will obviously have constricted blood flow...Your insides are OK...I suggest changing your position before you start to feel the numbness coming on. This is normal, don't worry. If you are worried, you should see your Doctor. You might have a circulation related condition if this is an ongoing thing, or some other type of condition, depending on your weight and medical issues.?

I am told that every 20 minutes your body's jellylike fluids get a bit solid-er. the joints and the stuff in them get a bit more unviscous. That is why we stretch. After 20 mins in the car for example, I try to wiggle everything and get the joints flowing again. Now in bed, I guess you stay doing just enough minor movements.

OR

You get up feeling very sore and stiff (I do !!) and have to stretch like a kitty.

Get used to it. it will only get worse the older you get. BUT all can be fixed with a few well-timed 'wiggle sessions' during the day when in an inactive position.
