Just saw this headline - "After 22 years, DNA frees man convicted of rape". What is done for exonerated criminals? I think he should be awarded millions of dollars and set up in a home and basically given back everything that was taken from him. What do you think?

Read Grisham's latest book: "The Innocent Man".

Yeah, I think the price of having an imperfect justice system is that we need some way to compensate those who have been wrongly punished.

So what do we do about those who we execute?

What do we do about those who serve life sentences and die and then are found innocent?

At the very least!

Many states have restitution laws that pay wrongfully imprisoned people for their time in jail.

But even after screwing up and ruining someone's life, states still fight tooth and nail to keep from making such payments.

They can sue for renumeration, but generally they are only awarded money if it can be shown that the prosecution acted in bad faith or withheld evidence. Simple mistakes don't count.

Generally early release is only granted to those who waive their rights to sue for false incarceration.

He will probably have to pay back all that money it cost the government for being in prison.
