Some people say yes you can, some say no you can't. As I regularly breed both fish, I have done it on a regular basis for years and hundreds of fish with no problems at all. Not to say it will work well every time though.

Male bettas are very territorial and are liable to attack anything that has long, flowing colourful fins like a guppy. However, this really boils down to the individual betta, and some people have had success keeping guppies and bettas together while others haven't.
The one thing you do need though is sufficient space. At least 5 gallons for one betta and one guppy. If you have any less than that, there will be a tussle regardless of your betta's temperament because neither will be able to establish their respective territories.

I have two ten gallon tanks each with a betta and male and female guppies and I have had no problems with anybody fighting. The betta doesnt have to be kept seperate, he is rather docile when with fish of a different species. They should be fine together. The most you will probably get is have a peice taken out of either the bettas tail or the guppies tail. No deaths.

I actually just asked that exact ? today. I was told yes. You can't put 2 male bettas together. My best friend has a male betta in with hers. They have been getting along fine for a year and a half.

Your betta is going to want a place near the surface where he can "hide." Some water plants that grow all the way up to the top should help.

its not supposed to be a problem if the betta is well fed, but they are aggresive fish. It tried it with some tetra's and the betta killed them.

You should not put male bettas with any long-finned fish. They are likely to attack that fish. They do alright with short-finned fish and females can be kept with anything.

Yes, you can, but two betas or more in the same tank is asking for trouble, they will attack eachother.
Have fun, hope this helps!

No. Betta's have to be by themselves. They'll kill the guppies.
