You can doing anything you make up your mind to do. The main criteria is to be a good driver! It doesn't matter if you are Lesbian, Gay, Brown, Black, Grey, Green, Yellow, Pink or whatever.
You are good at whatever you do and put 110% effort into any task, etc.

I think no matter what some men are going to be threatened. It's most likely the guys that think women are inferior and feel that a lesbian entering their field threatens them in every way, from job opportunities to potential partners. I've worked in very male-dominated physical labor jobs and I haven't had a problem so far from my coworkers, but then again I've not worked around some really homophobic, sexist pigs. Other than that I think a woman can succeed in that field. I don't see anything holding women back there except some of the men.

Best Beloved, when you began doing Milk-Testing way back in 1980 you entered a male-dominated job and showed them that women were more efficient and far more cow-friendly than most men.
It was the same when you gave up DHI and went for Truck Driving (although that first year was horrible on loneliness for the both of us) You have the type of personality that makes you able to move from one job to the other (once you make up your mind to go, mind you). You're efficient, personable, and you get the job done on-time with no frills -- including sometimes no sleep which drives me bloody mad and makes me bite my fingernails down to the knuckles. All OTR Drivers should be as courteous and as efficient as you are (really. and I'm not saying this because I love you, I'm saying this for a fact.) Never mind, I've seen you parallel park a Big Truck and I have trouble doing that with the pick-up. (eek)

In 94 years I have seen more and done more then most. I think that a lesbian would be a great long haul truck driver. I am not a lesbian myself but know a lot of fine woman who are and they can do anything a man can do, but better.
This world is so full of self rightous closed minded bigots that it's hard for any one,(gay, staright, bi, woman, ethnic minority,etc...) to do anything with out the ridicule and "threatening" of the MAN.
Men are only in this world for one reason, thats because woman gave them life.
If trucking is what you want to do than my sweet you go for it, because there is no extent to what we can do if we set our hearts and mind to it.

I agree, and I think you can be non-threatening, depends how secure the males are themselves, otherwise they'd feel threatened.
One thing I'd read that Robert Heinlein wrote, and that was that women would make better fighter pilots. He wrote that it was because their bodies can better handle g-forces, and they have better situational awareness than men.
Anyhoo, doesn't answer the question, of course they would make good long haul truckers!

Lesbians can do anything they want, including drive big trucks. But so can Gay men, like me. The male-dominated job industry you speak of is really the hetero-male-dominated job cr*ap all of us in the gay community have juggled with for too long. But Lesbians and Gays have already been in the trucking industry. Maybe you just haven't noticed. Honk Honk!

The only reason you would be threatening in any job (male dominated or not) is if your co-workers are not secure in themselves and their own job performance. Do what you like and what you are good at, who cares about what others think!

as a gay guy, I shouldnt talk, but lesbians make me uncomfortable....just the super manly ones. I have seen some lesbians more masculine than any guy I have ever met. its odd and I know a lot of people who feel this way. same as super femmy guys make me feel uncomfortable. whats with the tight wrangler jeans, the mullets, and the wallets with the chains? oh what do they have against hair care products?lesbians are just difficult for me to grasp. maybe its insecurities in me.

I guess some can and some can't. Some guys will consider anything with boobs threatening to them, but you don't really have to deal with them inside your truck.
