All engines are different with respect to torque and Horsepower. Lots of torque at lower engine RPMs would indicate a chance at quick acceleration if the transmission and axle gearing is mated to the best performance. Quick acceleration gearing is not of much value if you don't have high end HP. It takes both torque and HP to have a good performing car. When an engine is square or over square the HP and torque numbers are very close to one another and have the best chance at being a high performance combo. Engine size, induction method, compression ratio, camshaft timing, and gearing all contribute to a good performing vehicle. Usually, gasoline engines a with long stroke have better acceleration than a high HP engine. It is not a simple trade off from one feature to another.

low end torque puts you quicker off the line if your car has more. also, if we're talking about pulling things, then the more you have the more you can tow. acceleration is more linked to horsepower.
