When i was watching the indy car race a couple weekends ago it looked like there were Ribbons coming off the back of the wins in the corners especially. Was this air? I know nothing is tied to the rear spoiler and you could only see it entering, and during the corners clearly. I mean.. explain to me what it was? if it was air, why could we see it?

It was water vapor from the high humidity. You see the same thing from wings of jet planes.

vapor trails is correct. You see this about once a year on the cars either on race day or during practice. Conditions have to be just right.

Vapor trails are definitely the correct answer. Although it DOES happen more than twice a year. It's actually a pretty common occurrance.

The air was very humid that day. It was just water vapor. Pretty neat looking though.

If you wanna see something really freaky........try watching a sprint car race on a really hot, muggy night.....you can see those "contrails" coming off of the front wings!!!!

it is the air being compressed so much that the water vapor becomes visable
