While ignoring the rule of law and the constitution in other matters? Warrant-less wiretaps, Gitmo, Abu Grhaib, secret energy meetings and enforcing our immigration laws, to name a few.

Scott. I believe it has already been noted that our government has stepped across that line. I'm sorry that you refuse to believe that this administration actually follows the law, even the ones they write themselves.

It's in their nature to lie and cheat as long it suites their agenda.

When the finger gets pointed at them, they divert the attention placed on their misdoings by hiding behind the American flag with a constitutional issue. Most of the spin put on all the health care issues tries to makethe Dems look bad by stating that their plan for universal health care will bring this country on step closer to socialism.

warrant-less wire-tapping, no bid contracts to your friends and the rest of Bush's wrong doings is what brings us closer to a socialistic society.

Remember, he was the one that said, "I told all four that there are going to be some times where we don't agree with each other, but that's OK. If this were a dictatorship, it would be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator."

Warrantless wire-taps on INTERNATIONAL calls by people in the United States. Notice that nowhere in that sentence does it say american citizen. Because that requires a wiretap. The fact is that we have broadened rights of citizens to include those who are just in fact within the borders--and I disagree that was spelled out by the Constitution.

Gitmo--the right of the government to detain combatants has been upheld by the Supreme Court from what I've read, so if you declare war on the US, you do not get your Constitution, even if you are a US citizen--again I agree.

Abu Grhaib--I think the people involved should be punished if they violated international law. But I believe it was the individuals, not an order from the commanders not to mention the CiC.

Immigration law--I think we DO want the immigration laws enforced. That is why the bill died, Republican VOTERS said enforce our laws FIRST, then let's talk about the rest.

Next question or example please.

Oops, forgot health care. Not guaranteed by the Constitution. We already provide FREE care when it is a matter of life and death, talk to a health care professional. We even cover many elective procedures (like implants for deaf children who then never come back to learn how to interpret the signals from the implants.) But then Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid have been so successful, why not expand them?

Well Nixon tried to get a national health insurance program back in 1972, he was blocked by a democratic majority congress. A democratic majority congress blocked Hillary Care in 1993, when they refused to send any bills out of committee. Democrats in the House, All voted against starting the SCHIP State Children's health insurance program in 1998. Democrats voted against giving senior citizens prescriptionn drug coverage in 2003 In fact, every major reform of health care since 1966, was done by republicans and in each case, democrats tried to block the reform. You have a president who holds a town hall meeting, to speak against misinformation about health care reform. Then he flat out lies and speaks about $50,000 dollar amputations, when they only cost $2,000 dollars. There are specific problems with health care that need to be fixed, but no one is trying to fix just the problems. 1. Uninsured people -- put them on medicare 2. Pre existiung conditions - pass a law saying insurance companies cannot bar anyone for pre existing conditions. 3. Cost - pass a law saying anyone can purchase any health insurance plan currently offered by any insurance company, at the same rate the Insurance company is charging for that plan now. IE: You can buy into the same plan large companies like Dell offer, or into the Blue Cross plans offered to State Government employees at the same price. B, Cost - for those who cannot afford insurance, either put them on medicare or subsadise thier health insurance purchase. Bingo, that solves the majopr issues without completely over hauling the entire system. As mush as they say, we are not trying to get a single payer sustem, they are indeed trying. They might not try and pass it in this bill, but they are making sure that they lay the ground work for such a system.

No one ignores the rule of law. The Patriot Act (signed by Congress) allows warrantless wiretaps. War is governed by laws that are separate from our constitution. Most republicans are furious at the current administration and congresses refusal to enact our immigration laws. Sounds consistent to me.

Universal health care is not a priority for the republicans. Many have enough money to buy the care they require while the rest of us barely get by. I have started emailing, calling and writing my senators and representatives in regard to universal health care that is absolutely the greatest dilemma that will face this next election.

Good question, I don't know...

I would also think the in the Constitution, the pursuit of "life" would more likely mean the right to health care, rather than the right to have your claim denied so that HMO's can keep their money at the expense of people's health.

Because, to Republicans, the greatest sin of all in the eyes of the God they don't really believe in is giving a sucker an even break.

I guess because health care is a private industry, while the government does those other things you mentioned.

Because health care is not considered a national security issue for them. When it comes to military and security they are socialists.
