As for me : When I was 12, the day before my grandmother died, she asked me to tumble on the sidewalk for her, so she could see what I could do... She called (literally) all the neighbors on the street, and had them come out and watch me too.... She was really happy... :)

So, how about you???

Being on stage & hearing the sound of applause is the greatest feeling in the world. I've been fortunate enough to be on stage many times as an actress, dancer & singer/guitarist. I love being a star. It would be my dream to make a living that way, but for now it's just a hobby.

I plan to be onstage again tonight for the songwriters' open mike at my favourite bar (where we perform our original songs). It's the greatest feeling to be able to share your dream with others & have it appreciated.

As a child I was very shy & yet I came to life in front of a crowd when my mom would ask me to dance or sing for the company (just like when you performed for neighbours on the street. You're a gymnast? You said take a tumble. Anyway, keep at it! Have fun!).

You have a great night too.

Take care.
:)

Last May I won the John Phillip Sousa Band Award. I had worked really hard all year, being section leader of a group of fifteen clarinets in a small sixty piece band and had risen to first chair, beating a girl who had beaten me the previous year. My band director hand selected the recipient of this award, and I was floating on air. It meant even more the me, because in the fall, I was nominated for the award we give out for marching. It is voted on by the other band memebers, and out of four nominees I found out that I had come in third. I was so upset that night and it haunted me for a long time. So when I won this award in the spring, it was all the more better. A lot of people came up to me afterward and said they didn't know anyone who deserved it more. I was so happy and proud of myself and for once everyone had to recognize that I was really good.

During the Annual Sports Competition one year in high school our team was within a circle with the opposite team on the periphery throwing a volleyball at us. Any player who was hit went out. Finally I was the only one left. From then on the applause was only for me. It was exhilerating, heady. I was the Star! Though I too was hit moments before the bell, the feeling is still alive, after sundry decades.

When awarded the best actor in the inter college drama competition, I could only manage out one word 'honoured' into the microphone as I choked with emotion in front of my teachers, parents and a whole crowd of fellow students.

The first time my immediate supervisor asked me to do something unethical and I had the intestinal fortitude to say "No, you don't pay me enough to do that." That gives integrity to your opinions and other people notice and balance any repercussions. In my case it was to my advantage.

I don't have any events in my childhood when I was a "star." That did not happen until I graduated high school--I was in the top 5% of my class.
