First of all, THANK YOU for saying you want a wolfy-looking DOG- not a WOLFDOG! Wolf-dog crosses are terribly dangerous in the wrong hands and do nothing but create horrible PR for wild wolves.
Second: I agree with the other folks who are recommending the wolfy- looking breeds (husky, elkhound, spitz, american eskimo) but I noticed no one commented on the "foxy" breed. Check out a Shiba Inu. It's a small-medium clean dog that looks just like a fox in the face. This might be a good choice for you!

Many of the Northern or Spitz breeds still have a wolfish appearance.
Depending on the size of dog you are interested in you might want to consider: the Siberian husky, Alaskan Malamute, Keeshond, Finnish Spitz, or Icelandic Shepherd.
Please, however, make sure that you consider more than just the look of the dog before you decide. Of the list I mentioned there are very different breed temperaments.

Okay first of all I think you meant 'breed name', not species. A species is a group of living organisms that can interbreed and produce more of their species. Dogs are like a subspecies of wolf in that dogs and wolves can interbreed. A breed is a subdivision of a species. All dogs are of the species Canis familiaris.
Huskies, Malamutes, Samoyeds, and German Shepards all resemble wolves. They're also all fairly big dogs. I don't think there are any small dogs that look like wolves.

The dogs that look the most like wolves are large - Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes. American Eskimo dogs are wolf or fox-like but are all-white and are smaller. Keeshonds also sort of have that look and are smaller.

Malamutes. Many wolf hybrid breeders will use malamutes to interbreed with. I know of someone who has a female wolf hybrid and she's like 97 percent wolf because they kept breeding pure wolves to the wolf-malamute hybrids. Pretty dog though! Some breeders may use german shepherds or maybe husky.

Huskies and huskie mixes look very similar to wolves, and they can be anywhere between 35-70 pounds. If you want something similar to a fox (which are very very small), then you'll probably have to get a small breed mix. - Just be careful with huskies, sweet dogs, but they love to run!

A Malamute or Husky looks just like wolves. They are fairly large dogs. Most are family dogs. Nice to have.

Huskies have very wolf-like personalities whilst in comparison with different breeds. Like case in point the actuality that they infrequently bark yet make different noises, their intense potential desires, and their extensive urge for nutrients. they are markings are not lots wolf-like inspite of the incontrovertible fact that.

try an alaskan klee kai----a very new breed...they are essentially miniature huskies and are available in 3 sizes (they have yet to be accepted by the AKC but are instead registered with the UKC)----remember that anything that looks like a husky is going to be a handful and make sure you do your research.
