Has anyone ever heard of or seen a quilt block of a squirrel? I'd like to make a quilt with some squirrels on it, but, can't find a single one online. :\ help would be much appreciated. I'm thinking acorns and/or leaves along with it if anyone knows of nice patterns for those too. Preferably NON applique.

Thanks in advance :)

I once drew a silhouette of a squirrel for an applique. It's easy if you get a good photo or clipart online. Also you could do acorns. Don't be afraid to make your own patterns!

If you can find a picture of a squirrel that you like, it's possible to put a grid over it and then figure out where the pieces of a quilt block would go. You'll have triangles, squares & rectangles. I've made block designs this way of cows, geese & other farm animals as well as pieced numbers for a quilt for my grandson. Another option would be to embroider the blocks like the old red-work quilts. Most oak leaf patterns I can find are applique because the curves of a real oak leaf don't lend themselves to piecing the way a maple leaf does. You might be able to find cotton fabric with a pattern of oak leaves to use as alternate squares or sashing.

If you don't want to appliqué, your best bet would be paper piecing. There's a cute pattern at the link below, although it is not free. The second link is a free acorn paper piecing pattern. I couldn't find any oak leaves that weren't appliqué, but here are a couple of maple leaves.
