Kill the bastard. I hope he dies in a pile of his own mediocrity.

While I agree that fiction can be a very safe way to teach children about death, in this instance there would also be a larger, more harsh lesson about evil defeating good that would not fit the tone or character of the rest of the series nor would it be a particularly healthy lesson. As someone else mentioned, other characters have died and that is plenty of opportunity to discuss death with a child.

While I agree that Harry may need to die, it's not for the same reasons you provide. Do I want to see Harry die? No. But neither do I want to see someone else start publishing Harry Potter stories and end up ruining the wonderful universe Rowling has created. If Harry dies in the final book, I expect it will be after defeating Voldemort.

I'm, a "child" (a preteen actually), and if kids have read the other books they already know about death, I mean look at how many people have died: harry's mum and dad, sirius, dumbledore, professor quirrel, a giant snake (lol), Cedric, and a bunch of other not so important people. I mean they haveprobably had their pets die and don't say that thats not like a person, because they are and they've probably had someone else they've known die anyways. And so your telling us that you want to kill harry off to each little kids a lesson? That sounds a little harsh. I think that he has a very good chance of dieing in the 7th book, but I really really don't want him to. I can't wait to read the book though!!!!

I'll agree in part--I would like Harry & what's-his-name (the big bad guy) to take each other out in a blaze of glory. That's been my call since I was informed by the fans in my circle that 2 major characters were going to bite the dust in the last book.
There are things worth dying for, and that would be a more important message than just "death happens."

They have been learning about death in these books, the fact that Harry is an orphan for starters he then loses friend Cedric Diggory, godfather, Sirius Black, and trusted confidant Albus Dumbeldor. For Harry to die would be quite sad. It's bad enough that TWO main characters are to be killed off.

Well, I think that the series does need to end but, I dont think that she needs to just kill him. I think the way to end the series is to just have them grow up and move on with their lives. I dont think that kids really need to learn about death and dying in a safe environment I think that kids will learn about that stuff at a later tim in their lives. Just my opinion.

She does in the last book. This has been mentioned by the actors and by J.K. herself several times in the last 4 months.

Dont think its going to happen. People read to escape reality, not to expierience the real world. Especially in a fictional novel geared towards children. He will live but his friends will die.

i dont know. because jkrowling got so depressed after finising the books, it makes me think one of her favorite characters got killed. but im not sure if harry will die. i think a worse thing would be if all his friends died, because of his actions. i think lupin will die, and possibly ron. but obviouslty i have no idea...
