nonchalance is hardly worthy of contempt especially in these times of reform, democracy and uniformity, where everyone is expected to assimilate into some group or other and subsequently become stereotyped. How can we be individual when there's such emphasis on conformity. What if I wanted to be ME? Just because someone appears to sit on the fence, doesn't mean they don't have an opinion. It could mean they have had their individuality stolen by the pressures of society and as a result they no longer have the confidence to say what they feel. (ok, OTT again but.....y'know...)

i find inderfferance hardest to take. i can go by with the contempt . Contempt is an intense feeling of disrespect and dislike. It is similar to hate, but implies feelings of superiority/superciliousness. A person who has contempt for another individual looks down (condescends) on that person. The "recipient of contempt is deemed unworthy, beneath redemption. Contempt may be related to feelings of disgust and bitterness.
The old adage, "familiarity breeds contempt" means that we get sick of people and places that we see every day. In fact, however, familiarity generally produces attraction. This is documented as the mere exposure effect in psychology.
In a legal sense, contempt means disrespect for the authority of the court. A contempt of court charge may be brought against those who are unruly or disobedient.
but indifference is the quality, state, or fact of being indifferent
a archaic : lack of difference or distinction between two or more things or absence of compulsion to or toward one thing or another makes one sick.
it is better to say direct than to be indifferent and show no emotions towards a issue in life.

I agree with the former post. Indifference is the worst. It's endlessly frustrating to meet people who simply don't care. They have no opinions, no burdens and commit to nothing in life. Those people, to me, are the worst kind. They have no conviction.
