please could anyone tell me I have a garage in a 1930's house with a baton and tiled roof and to have it converted I need to take tiles off and felt and tiles and batons put back on, building inspector confirmed this but I need it officially in writting where can I find details of this written down as building inspector would not put pen to paper and I need it due to a dispute many thanks

yes get it officially or you will have trouble when you come to sell anytime you definitely need building regs

The garage roof was obviously designed for just being that-not a roof over someone's head, so if you are re-designing the purpose of the garage, you will have to also make it fit for purpose. This will mean getting the roof recovered with felt and tiles/slates, fitting insulation to the outer walls, fitting a damp proof course etc. If it's a 30's garage, the chances are the brickwork will be only a half brick (ie one skin of brickwork) thick, so if this is the case you will also require a substantial amount of insulation fixing to the outer walls prior to plasterboarding.

Contact trading standards and they will be able to put you in touch with someone who will assess what has been done incorrectly and put it in writing.
It will cost you for the report though....
