There are 21 towns listed on this site as having 100.000 or more inhabitants.
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lijst_van_grote_Nederlandse_steden

But in the Netherlands a place is a town if it has town rights or 25000 inhabitants.
I could not find a list naming all of those, although I found that the smallest 'town' has about 40 people living there.

But here is a list of most towns and bigger villages:

But the best places to go (if you can get away from Amsterdam that is,) are the smaller old towns along the coastal area, like Alkmaar, Haarlem, Leiden, Delft or (a bit more inland) Gouda.

There are 30 cities with 95.000 inhabitants and more. In the Dutch definition those are medium and large cities. About 25 of them have between 100.000 and 200.000 inhabitants and Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht have anywhere between 300.000 and 700.000.

The last 4 mentioned cities are pretty close to each other. You can reach any one of them within 30 - 60 minutes by train, from down town to down town.

Amsterdam
Rotterdam
Utrecht
Maasticht
Freisland

All are within 1.5 hrs of each other by train.

I'll be in Belgium in half a year...which also happens to be only 1.5 hrs away from all those places
