there are many, but the first that comes to mind is jim croce's time in a bottle. it evokes so much beautiful emotion and the words are simple- but so meaningful. i just can't help but love it.

If I could save Time in a bottle
The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day
Til Eternity passes away
Just to spend them with you

If I could make days last forever
If words could make wishes come true
I'd save every day like a treasure and then,
Again, I would spend them with you

CHORUS:
But there never seems to be enough time
To do the things you want to do
Once you find them
I've looked around enough to know
That you're the one I want to go
Through time with

If I had a box just for wishes
And dreams that had never come true
The box would be empty
Except for the memory
Of how they were answered by you

*have to agree with the mentions of jack johnson, john mayer, and jeff buckley's hallelujah- gives me shivers.

I love Hook from Blues Travelers because it makes fun of 90% of the people who like the song (read the lyrics and you'll understand what I mean)

I love The Dance by Garth Brooks.. beautiful song

Most Jack Johnson songs have a lot more depth than your average listener would pick up on.. all great songs.

Ben Harper is the same way.

Mine would definitly be "Split Screen Sadness" by John Mayer. He really expresses a tough break up through this song and has some lines that alot of people can relate to.
Such as,
"All you need is love is a lie cause
We had love but we still said goodbye"

"And it stings when it's nobody's fault
Cause there's nothing to blame at the drop of your name
It's only the air you took and the breath you left"

"I called
Because
I just
Need to feel you on the line
Don't hang up this time
And I know it was me who called it over but
I still wish you'd fought me 'til your dying day
Don't let me get away"

Theres more than that, those are just my favorites =)

"Creep" by Radiohead. The lyrics are pretty simple, but it's intense. "You're so f*cking special, I wish I was special."

Songs give meaning and solemnity when you can relate to it, and "Creep" is something I can relate to.

But if you're looking for a song where you have to think about it...it's probably "Breathe No More" by Evanescence.
