Never heard of white ants before. Some ants are grayish in color,... but white?... It does sound like termites. You can check out photos of ants at http://pestprojoe.com

You probably want to call in a professional to see if they are termites. You don't really want to mess with termites.

What you describe is probably termites. Ants keep a very neat and clear gallery (home) while termite galleries are filled with what appears to be "sand" or "dirt"... actually it is termite droppings. Someone needs to look at your house because you DEFINITELY have a problem. Personally I would go with a KNOWN local professional and not with one of the "big" companies. I have worked for "big" companies and believe me... local is better! The man or woman who runs the local company has to live in that area, so they know that you can always find them... and even tell your friends if they mess you over.

Definitely sounds like termites. You can identify termites because they don't have the pinched in "waist" like an ant. Sorry my insect terminology isn't up to par.
