I might add I have already run my virus protector and my spyware program. I've also cleaned out history, cookies, and cache, etc. Even checked if I needed to defrag, and I don't.

it is going to be installation the updates; provide it 20 minutes or so, and then reboot the pc. If it nonetheless runs sluggish, and you have the McAffee cd-rom, attempt uninstalling and re-installation the utility, and then replace it. If it nonetheless runs sluggish, there's a sturdy possibility you have already got an epidemic on your pc, and this is attempting to disable McAffee. At this ingredient, your ultimate guess is to get some expert help. And particular, some viruses are being written that have the aptitude to disable anti-virus utility... sturdy success! Edit: gadget restoration infrequently facilitates; do no longer difficulty with it... Edit #2: Jesus Tapdancing Christ... do no longer any of you human beings understand troubleshooting? the project began purely after she did an replace; you are able to desire to pay interest on that. working scandisk & defragging on a usual foundation is great, yet that may not going to assist right here. the two her replace went undesirable, or she has an epidemic/trojan/computer virus already resident on the difficult stress this is messing with the replace...

I presume this is a home network. I do not know if it is wired or wireless and how many users you have on the LAN. If wireless, I do not know if there are freeloaders riding onboard and hogging bandwidth either.

We need to rule out many things first.

If you have a wireless network, deactivate wireless. Connect your pc to the LAN port of the router with a wired connection. Remove any other wired users. Reboot the modem and router and your pc.

Turn off any internet using applications that may be running in the background on your pc. Now go to www.pcpitstop.com and run their upload and download speed tests. This measures the speed. If the speed is approximately what the ISP provider indicates, then your ISP is delivering and your pc is receiving properly. If it is substantially slower thanthe ISP indicates, contact the ISP and see if there is a short term problem on his end. If the ISP has no problems and you are very slow, you have something on your pc that is hogging bandwidth. Run all the Microsoft security updates for your pc. Update your virus protection. Run a virus scan and follow all corrective actions. Rerun the internet speed and see if it has improved. If not you have a major infestation on your pc and probably you will need to reformat.

If the speed test is fine, then you need to concern yourself with your other pcs and potential hackers if you are wireless. Before you connect any other pcs to your LAN, check your wireless configuration on your router, making sure you have implemented WPA if you have it (WEP if you do not); change the WPA preshared key (at least 10 characters, mix upper and lower case and numbers), and implement MAC address validation (be sure to enter MAC addresses for the wireless ports of all approved wireless pcs in the router's security where it asks for MAC addresses. Now be sure to reconfig all wireless pcs to reflect the WPA preshare key change. Activate each LAN pc, one by one and do an internet speed test after each is activated. If one of these pcs are infected, you will tell this way. Be sure to update all pcs with the latest Microsoft security updates, update their antivrus, and do a system scan. Do one at a time. If you find one pc a "bad actor" in that speeds drop when it is connected, turn it off and complete testing on all the others. Go back to the infected and address it.

You need to go step by step on this as we really do not know where the problem is.

How fast your computer runs can be determind on how much storage your computer can hold in its hard drive even if you have high speed internet. some computers may be able to hold up to 6GB 80GB 100GB etc but if you use up all of your storage space by downloading music, videos, games...etc then that can cause your computer to run slow because the memory on your computer is very low due to the downloading. A simple way to fix this problem is to A. delete certain large files...B. buy a new Hard drive for your computer than can store a lot of items. or C. go to "CONTROL PANEL" on your startup, click on "PERFORMANCE and MAINTENANCE" on the top left hand side you will see "SYSTEM RESTORE" this allows you to restore your computer to an earlier time period in which your computer was not acting up.

another reason for your computer to be running slow is because your computer has been infected by a virus. and thats not good

Have you unplugged your Cable Modem and plugged it back in? I would suggest doing this once a month or so.

You can also refresh your connection to your ISP's servers and see if this helps. When I had cable internet (ugh!!) I did this every once and awhile and it helped.

1. Go to Start>Run>Type CMD and click OK.
2. In the black DOS box that comes up type this:
IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS
3. Then type IPCONFIG /REGISTERDNS

If that doesn't help, then try this one:

4. Type IPCONFIG /RELEASE
5. Then type IPCONFIG /RENEW

either you have some spy ware or viruses that are slowing down your computer... buy a program that rids these viruses and can also get rid of spy-ware... also i would bet that you do not empty your cookies... to do that go to tools -> Internet options.. delete cookies as well as offline content
this should speed it up a little
you may want to get rid of programs on your hard drive that you do not use that take up memory

Cable internet is shared with everybody who has it or the bandwidth. Someone in your neighborhood is most likely using a lot of bandwidth for something, so that may be the problem.

Before you try to dig out thing happening within your own computer, try test speed of your network: http://www.speedtest.net No need to download anyware. Just click and test. If your download/upload speed is below 0.5M/s, then call your ISP for help.
