Look at some of the questions on this site - "how do I sell a business?" That person should look for a business broker advertising in the local phone book or a national broker on the net. Without that advertising how would any of us find the products or services we need? When you go to the store how do you pick an item? As soon a a label goes on it is advertising so if you see Paris Hilton wearing something to die for (additional advertising) you know to look for that particular label - otherwise it would be just another ........
Companies depend on a reputation associated with any and all of their products. Take 3M. Good stuff - so if you have a choice between a few brands you might just pick the 3M item. So yes - advertising is good.
Now the flip side. How about when a politician dies or is arrested before election day, but gets voted in because of "name recognition" only. Good case of oversell.
Seeing a Nascar with "Waste Management" as the sponsor was a real crack up for me. We have no other choice for our trash removal so maybe they should cut my trash removal costs and save the multiple million dollar sponsorship -

We have gotten conditioned to seeing advertising everywhere. Now there's a truck that drives all over town like a mobile billboard. The phone book is covered in ads, even the spine. Won't be long before they paint advertising on the streets.
