I'd like to know who came up with this idea. Why can't the standard be 3 days a week instead of 5? I think mondays and fridays should be declared non-working days. People need to work less and get paid more to live a healthy, happy life.

I just wanted to add that I work an 8 hour day with a half hour lunch and 2, 15 minute breaks or combined breaks into lunch for 1 hour. I guess that is the norm.

I am all for working less, getting paid more and enjoying a life outside of the daily routine.

Think about it, we spend most of our time at a job or preparing for one. Add in prep time in the morning and in the evening, lunches, clothes, etc.. and don't forget travel to and from work. So we as human being, on average, spend about 11 hrs committed to a job we only get paid 7.5 hours for.

This is how the majority of the human race functions on a day-to-day basis.

We spend more time with our colleagues than we do with our spouses, loved ones, family, etc.. Life is much more than this.

You are wishing for a more self-indulgent work schedule.
Sorry that the status quo is such a burden to you.

Look around you in society.
Who is successful, and who is not?

I assure you that those that work 3 days per week are not successful.
Perhaps you should be thankful that our normal work week is not 6 days per week.

I don't have an answer to your question but I surely agree with you. I work 9 hour days but I have every other Friday off so it averages 40 hours a week. I would love to have all Mondays and Fridays off without working longer the other 3 days. My Fridays off are precious to me for sure. I hate my job but I am staying for the Fridays off--well they pay for my school too but whatever.

Most Americans who have jobs work at least 40 hours a week (8 hours a day) so you are already luckier than most.

I heard there was a P.D. in California that works 3 twelve-hour days per week.

We shouldn't.
Technology is supposed to make our lives easier not harder.
YES. That means lazier. That is the whole point of civilization: to be at total leisure. The stuff we do today isn't NEARLY what people had to go through even 100 years ago.

But greed of the people who force us all into this system of dependence want more, more, more. Greed. They got 10 million, they want 100 million. They got 100 million, they want 1 billion. They get 1 billion, they want 10 billion, then 100 billion, then 1 trillion. They want all the benefits and rewards of civilization and they will use you to get it.

They designed this money system to take away the independence of most people in society. You can't do ANYTHING in this world without having to operate under a money system. You can't find your patch of land and live off of it because the government will force you to pay fees, tributes, and taxes to them. And you can't refuse because of the enforcer class designed to the protect the interests of the wealthy elite. They have numbers and weaponry that outclass you and a punishment system which will rob you of your very livelihood and ability to determine your own destiny.

Food, water, living HQs, clothing, tools, and any other item on earth used within and without civilization depends on the money system to access. No money, no life. So you will be a slave to the designs of the ones who want your labor and livelihood to maintain their status.

Things are priced in certain ways to create classes of people. Because of the reality of numbers the power class had to concede some resources in order to keep the majority. Since most people are HAVE-NOTS any "have" they come across they are happy to get.
The pricing of things sets up a barrier to independence and forces you to different degrees depending on your level of wealth to become stuck to the whims of the power class who use the money system as the go-between of the essential resources we need for daily life as well as any artifacts of civilization that enhance this life.

There is a point where money becomes useless. When you surpass the cost of living. After that point all wants and needs are basically taken care of. And with money you can make more money and your money begins working for you instead of you working for it.

By controlling the access points of entry using cost of living they can conrol the people. By building greater wealth they can use money power for greater control. After a while wealth amassment is only for control purposes. It is to set up new designs in order to control the populace and hold your throne.
Since they let a little of the wealth out, since they let a little luxury grace the Have-Nots, the have-nots will fight amongst each other over the scraps never bothering the mastermind of all this. Some of them ironically champion the aims of the power class because they got a little wealth in their pocket.

So have-nots with a little bit of have look down on have-nots with less have and enforce this moneyrule order by contributing and strengthening this machine. Power class also creates things in society using different medias to spread messages that enforce their status. As the opposition is divided by so many devices, there is little threat to the power class' status. All a great big mind game to protect one's greedy interests.

This was done long before any of us were born. Way back in the "GEICO Cavemen" days so to speak.

Asking this question is the first step to freedom. You understand this system is bunk like I do so you have to figure out a way to make it work for you. In reality you don't have to work at all. You are supposed to do what you want to do in life whatever that may be.

Don't expect to be paid more. That's not their aim. Remember they want to keep as much for themselves. Only when the Suspension of Disbelief is broken, when the mindgame shows dangerous cracks will any change take place. A few people in protest won't get anything done but when they see a movement of people united against one cause they will take notice. They may have to engineer new schemes and new mindgames or part with a little more wealth because of the reality that they're outnumbered.

Slavery ended not because of moral reasons but because it was not cost-effective. And it could also potentially undo the system they set forth if enough outrage was gathered. It was better to let them slave under their own power rather than control them directly. And then they could be disunited through many schemes and means while still building the wealth.

Worker class revolutions brought us workplace safety, work hours, overtime, child labor laws, unions and a host of reforms but notice that slowly a lot of those gains have been or are being rolled back. They never liked conceding this but they had to in order for a national revolt or worldwide revolt not to overturn them. Czars is Russia got killed by the people. They thought Marie Antoinette said "let them eat cake" and they beheaded her. They almost killed Aristide from Haiti. Kings have been overthrown before. Presidents assassinated. They are very weak because they are very few. 10 can never beat 10,000,000.

As long as you keep the people annoyed but not enraged you are safe. Gas prices won't go ridiculously up quickly because people won't stand for it. Even the enforcer class may revolt in that situation. So they time it properly so people only grumble not rumble.

Understand this big mind game and make plans accordingly to escape. It's hard because we're all born and brought up in the various slave classes. Some hurt others to escape. Since I value life other than my own I won't do this which actually sets me back in an evil world like this. But it's one rule I won't break. Can't gain at good people's expense.
I don't know your plan on how to break the cycle or your personal rules in doing it but just know no one has to work 7.5 hours/5 days a week. No one.

Civilization's goal is to make the human race soft and lazy for leisure's sake only. It is true.
