Not on something that new. Not only is it against the law, but it will mess your computer up in a big bad way.

On an older car, before there was a brainbox and a sensor for everything, you could get away with it. Did it on my '78 Malibu and got nearly a 7 mpg increase, as well as about 15 or 20 extra ponies out from under the hood.

I wouldn't advise putting holes in it. I doubt that it would do it much good. Some of these converters have pellets in them that will just come out if you try to drill it out. It could also cause you problems with the computer and give you a "check engine light" on the dash as well as failing emission testing at inspections if your state requires them. Call around for pricing at your auto parts store. They can be expensive for imports, but prices vary from store to store.

The best bet is to remove the catalytic converter and replace it with a piece of straight pipe.

You will have to be able to weld, or figure out a way of hooking the new piece of pipe in with clamps or something.

I used to live in california - and their inspectors required a catalytic converter - so we would just cut the pipe as far away as possible - take a broom handle or something and knock all the crap out of the converter, and then weld it back in again. It would make the car run fantastic (and usually do better on smog tests amusingly enough).

No-that would violate federal law and risk a fire from the extra heat put out by the failed converter. Have it replaced.

Nope. !00% illegal and you can be fined up $10,000 if you are caught doing it. But I'm not telling you to do it . But I've seen people drop the exhaust pipe and break up the catalyst inside and clean them out. And then reattach the pipe again.

no dear, you cant do that!. if you punched holes in it, you would have an exhaust leak and the fumes would come up into your car and kill you.its best if you just have it replaced. ill tell you what, if your strapped for money, ask for a universal cat, thats what i have on my car, its cheaper and legal, then the original replacement kind.
