Please tell me, no i do not want people who like socialized healthcare answering unless they have a problem with the system.

Because I do not believe the government is capable of running the system. Also there is not enough money, even after raising taxes, to pay for all the high tech care especially having to do with Cancer diagnosis and treatment so it would be necessary to cap it. Canada and Britain have long waits and poorer survival rates for Cancer. The countries where it is successful are more homogenous and take better care of themselves. In the past decades since Medicare began, fraud abounds and physicians are reimbursed at shockingly low levels for those patients . It all boils down to $$. Good for you for getting a great job and not going into medicine!

Socialized health care only works in countries with a smaller population, and even then it's only partially successful. Sure, the exhorbitant tax rates in these countries allow for all citizens to have free health care, but the quality and efficiency of the health care is suspect. In Denmark, for example, the wait lists are so long that many people are now opting for privatized health care - expenses paid out of their own pockets - simply because they will be able to see a reputable doctor when they need.

These same countries also have more stringent immigration requirements to ensure their population doesn't balloon, putting extra strain on their health care system.

So: those two reasons above are two reasons why socialized health care won't be able to work in the US. Our population is simply too large to hand 350 million people free health care; the quality of care would suffer, and it would be nearly impossible to see a doctor in a timely fashion. We have virtually zero immigration control, and our population is guaranteed to swell until we secure our borders.

Lastly, and slightly separately from the reasons above, most people don't have confidence in the US government. The last three presidents have been either forgettable, unlikeable, or a combination of both. National issues are mired in petty partisan bickering. How can we trust the government with our health, when we already don't trust them with anything?

To put it bluntly because the government has a crappy track record at running social programs.

Things that they control become less efficient, more expensive, and of worse quality.

I agree we need to do something about our health care system, but giving it over to the government is a bad idea.
