If they already have the transmission in stock, about a day. They may quote 5-7 hours, but then they have to fill w/fluid and drive it, then let it run and get it back onto the lift to double check for leaks and drive again.
That is just for installation. I really depends on who is going it. A few hours to take it out, a few extra to put it back in.
If you're having it rebuilt, it may take a few days.

It's redundant to say 'new car transmission put in your car'.
It depends on who is doing it. A good mechanic can put a new one in your car in about a day if they don't have anything else to do.
If you are dropping it off to have it done, then it depends on how many other cars are in front of yours.
It also depends on whether or not it works the first time after they get it installed.
Also - manual or automatic?

If you take it to a shop, depending on how busy they are, I would say a day maybe 2 at the most. I changed my tranie out in about 4 hours, but that was a change from a automatic to a manual tranie to..
