do you think they are unfairly being put into the category of violent radical rebelious clerics?

Also why do you think most people outside of the west (Europe and North America) think all of the people in the west are Christians?

we as humans have a natural tendency to generalize. this is why "all Americans are Christians" and "all Muslims are radical".. we've never met enough to alter our perception of this. Now obviously this is in and of itself a generalization as not all people will do this.. but generally this is how it goes. also, I've found through experience that those who are either worldly (having traveled a lot or read a lot) and those with more education are usually quicker to drop the stereotypes.

Yes, I do think it is an unfair assumption that people who are muslim are put into the same category as people who have gone through with terrorist attacks. That's the thing about having a bias based on your own personal experiences. It can help, in some cases, by keeping you safe from harm, but in other cases, it can prevent an open mind.

Again, regarding the second question, people will use their own understanding of what they have experienced in the world to apply it to the parts of the world they have not yet experienced. It's common for people to use what they consider normal, and apply it to others. As far as people thinking that most in the Western world are Christians, look up terror management theory. There are some good explanations of why someone (or many people) will choose to view the world as the same as what they are used to.

In light of that question, I have had the opportunity to attend a Mosque for a prayer service and found it quite comforting. An open mind, both ways, is the best method, in my opinon, for understanding people and the world.

Given the violent activities of Muslims, I do not think they are being unfairly categorized.

I am sure there are some very good people who believe in Allah. But the reality is that many of the Muslims want non-believers to die or to convert by the sword. Muslim is NOT a religion of Peace; it is a religion of dominance.

-Why do people outside of the west think that Westerner's are Christians? Because the United States was founded on a strong belief in God. The majority of Americans and Europeans are Christian or Jewish.

Are there exceptions? Yes!

Just as there are exceptions to violent Muslims!

Take it from one who has spent a lot of time in the middle east: All muslims are potential terrorists.

Answer to 2nd question: They don't know any better and are unwilling to learn. If the Qur'an doesn't say it, they don't know it.
