AGP is being replaced by the faster PCI express. Not many new motherboards have AGP plugs on them anymore, but you should still be able to purchase AGP graphics cards for some time, though they will not be as fast as some of the PIC Express ones.

A BIG NO. Just take a look at the retail motherboard offerings of the big mobo makers and you will always find several models w/ AGP slots. Why? Because it is so cheap to produce that technology and it has a bigger market - first time PC owners w/ limited budget.

Graphics card makers also keep coming out with the latest AGP version of their PCIe designs. They know there are millions of PCs on AGP and there are many who would typically upgrade just the graphics card instead of the whole PC.

PCI-E is the new standard for video cards. They still make them AGP style, but most are PCI-E and will probably phase out AGP altogether in the year or so.

yes theyre currently in the process of phasing it out for pci express x16. agp 8x (2gbps) vs pci x16(8gbps). most cards dont utilize all 8gbps and work near agp however, higher end cards such as the 7950gt, 8800gts work well into the 3-6 gbps range. by phasing out agp they ensure that video cards will have enough bandwidth to work in the future.
