What (if any) remedies are there for a false accusation of indecent assault?

If a girl makes a false accusation of indecent assault and you are ostracised, what remedies are there?

Is this slander or actually a criminal offence?

You can sue her for slander. It is a civil offense. If she filed a false complaint with the police, that would be a criminal offense.
